Privatization

The government is a non-profit organization with regulated salaries. Privatization is the transfer of government functions to the private sector, ostensibly to save us money. In reality the practice is to maximize private profits for providing the public with goods and services. The government could do the job just as easily, but privatization is more profitable, for some. So it happens.
There are many industries that should be non-profit and under democratic management, including healthcare and incarceration.
